After Genki I and II?

Hello everyone,

I've been searching around for some time for books to buy after finishing the Genki I and II book, I've found some interesting (especially An Integrated Approach to Intermediate Japanese) but I'd like to hear others opinions, who've already done this buy.
What book would you recommend and why?

The Integrated Approach is a great follow-up to the Genki books, in fact when I used it I just called it Genki III. All the Japan Times books are generally good quality; the grammar dictionaries are pretty extensive, and there are a few books useful for reading practice.

Ya that book is made to be used after Genki II.So I would say go ahead and use it.

Well imo the best thing one can do is to study using any given book until like intermediate level, and purchasing like all of the Kodansha books lol. That'll leave you with a HUGE LOAD of information to digest.

shikyo, may i ask you for how long did you study from genki books? i found genki very good, but my problem is that I am enroled in intensive japanese course now, and we already finished part one in two months! and have another two for part two! my head is about to explode

I've been going with them for about ~8 months, 4 months does indeed sound a bit harsh, even with a teacher

Does "An Integrated Approach to Intermediate Japanese" have a workbook and/or CDs like Genki does?

I should, hopefully, be getting Genki I & the workbook for Christmas, and even though it's like a long time away, I wanted also to knwo what to et after Genki I & II.

Also: This is off topic, I think, but I was wondering if when getting Genki, is it worth getting the CDs? I mean, i have a bunch of penpals, and I've been "studying" Japanese for like 2 years (in February, it'll be 2 years), so I have done how to pronounce the things... So should I get it anyways?

I do not remember there being a workbook for "Genki III."

As for the Genki CDs, I think they are outrageously overpriced (It's been so long I forgot the exact cost). I managed to get a copy of the CDs for free from a generous friend, but I don't recall ever using them outside of specific assignments. If you can get them cheap, that's your call; there are sections of the book dedicated to them, so you'll need them to get the most out of your book, but I didn't find them necessary. For self-study, I'd probably be more apt to recommend them.
