I am about to finish high school in manchester, england and would like to travel to japan.

what I want to know is anything, where should I go to learn japanese, what should I know before I go etc.

any replies would be most appreciated

If all you want to do is travel, go to www.lonelyplanet.com and take the link to the Thorn Tree (discussion groups). Select the Asia - North East Asia link (no specific country), and in there you will see a thread called North-East Asia branch Frequently Asked Questions thread. Japan is in there. TONS of information.
