The countdown to my favourite time of year has begun! I thought it might be nice if we made our own advent calendar, as I haven't grown out of them yet! Please post any wintry or Christmassy pictures you find - or better still, take yourself - or maybe you have some recipes or Christmas crafts to share.

To start us off, here is a picture of some frosty fallen leaves in my yard:

great pic!!!
i am still hesitating to abuse my camera at -10 below (its limit according to the manual +5 or at least 0), but every day makes my will to risk more and more :D i guess i`ll take a chance, thought it won`t be a calendar since winter at its power already for 1/2 month here

cool, i still have some photo's of last years winter: so here they are

winter1
winter2
winter3
winter4
winter5
winter6

They are a bit large, so i needed to link them. hope you guys like them, nice thread Tsuyoiko ( i always love threads, with photo's in it!)

Void - I have never experienced such cold! The coldest I have ever known was -7, that was about 8 or 9 years ago, and only on one day. It rarely gets below freezing here!

Dutch - Great pics! I like the nighttime one and the ducks - but I like the last one best, as it almost looks like it was taken in black and white. It reminds me of Andy Goldsworthy, who has made some great winter sculptures, like this one:

Ohhh, great pictures all, and I love the Andy Goldsworthy one! :-)
I haven't got any winter pictures. :( It only snowed for about one day last winter! And I forgot to use my camera when we had snow the other day... Hopefully I can take some nice wintery photos before Christmas though, and I'll be sure and post them here! 👍

Here is my beloved maple tree in Monday's snow:

well, few from tonight (without falsh)

Great pics Void - very artistic!

Here is Iris in the snow:

:D I like those Dutch!

Here's another Andy Goldsworthy:

They put some of his sculptures on stamps a couple of years ago. Simon works at Royal Mail's call centre, and loads of people rang up to complain about the stamps because they didn't show Christian scenes.

Hopefully Kirei won't mind me linking to her snowy picture - it's so pretty!

one more night hunting
fingers in the dark and evening chill (it`s unfocused, but hands get numb at -28, at least it transfuses some of winter`s breath)

That's beautiful Void! I always think the snow looks so much prettier at night!

I don't have any pictures today, so here are my favourite cocktails that I like to drink at Christmas (and at summer barbecues and birthday parties and any time I have an excuse 😊 ) I don't bother measuring stuff, just put a 'thumb' of the spirit in a big glass, stirred not shaken - and I don't bother with ice as it only waters it down!

Scarlet O'Hara: Bourbon (Jack Daniels, Jim Beam or Southern Comfort are all good), half cranberry juice, half ginger ale, a few slices of lime

Sea Breeze: Vodka, half cranberry juice, half grapefruit juice, a few slices of grapefruit or lemon

seabreaze-1.webp

Dark and Stormy: Dark rum, half ginger ale, half cola, a few slices of lime

Cuba Libre: Dark rum, cola, juice of half a lime, a few slices of lime

glass1-1.webp

Mint Julep: Whiskey or Bourbon, Peppermint tea made with plenty of sugar and cooled, a few sprigs of fresh mint

And now I'm going to have a sleep :D

I should be able to get some snow pics soon!

The weatherman promises us 5 or 6 inchs of snow on Friday. Maybe I'll get to try out my new snowblower?

Frank

:-)

Can't wait to see your pics Frank - and I love your snow-bunny avatar!

Glastonbury tor in winter:

aha! you`ve got blue skies, Tsuyoiko!!! I hope to go for foto-hunting tomorrow and hope camera won`t die under weight of -30.... but white trees are so beautiful %))))) i`d hate to miss it

Out My Windows !

Big storm day in Maine today. We got 11 inches of snow in 8 hours. Driving was a nightmare with all roads icy. In my 2 hours of driving around to my patients homes I counted 12 cars off the road with many more being talked about on the police radio I carry. I took a couple pics out the window of my house, too cold to go out, LOL.

Christmas in Japan is a "secular" festival--personally I consider it's just another excuse for people to party and give and get gifts. (Well, of course, the Japanese are not Christians! 😌 )

Still, it has become very fashionable to set up pretty illumination in various shopping and business districts in Tokyo and other cities. This is one example:

The "Millenario" illuminations in Marunouchi, Tokyo, set up every Christmas until New Year, designed by Italian art director Valerio Festi.

Yay! There's some gorgeous pictures from everybody. =)
At last, I can contribute - I took a photo. =) We haven't got any snow, but... bare trees are wintery, yes? (I hope!)

This was the view from my bedroom window this morning. =)
