Rape, yes is a reason, but if you are raped, don't wait for months to get an abortion you can go to any emergency room and/or pharmacy (in some areas at least where I live) and get the "day after pill". I wouldn't force any woman to carry a rapists child. BUT here is where women get mad at me. If you get pregnant and the man in the relationship wants the child and will raise it, support it, etc, if the woman doesn't, why doesn't he get a say? He is part of that child. I know it gets difficult because woman have the burden of carrying the child for 9 months, but what if she were compensated? See, that's where I have questions......
Its not as simple as simply taking the morning after pill, even when it is taken within its most effective period of time it is not 100% effective;
"Taken up to three days after unprotected sex (hence the term "morning-after pill" is a bit of a misnomer) emergency contraception has a 95% success rate within 24 hours, which falls to just 58% between 49 and 72 hours";
Ellie Levenson on emergency contraception
I've also heard that it can make women very sick/nauseous and disrupt their periods and stuff.
And with the guy being a part of the question- i think the guy should be made aware that he has potentially fathered a child, but i think what the woman wants is the priority. Its the woman who has to carry the kicking child for 9months, suffering from back pain, constipation and stretch marks, its the woman who has to go through extremely painful and even life threatening labor, which could go on for days and she is likely to sh*t herself during labor and have her vagina ripped apart, its the woman who's going to have milk leaking out of her swollen sore breats with a crying baby with her 24/7 and her hormones all messed up etc.
All the guy does is stick his penis in the woman and thats about as far as his basic involvement goes in making the baby- he doesn't have to sacrifice anything, while the womans sacrifices could scar her for the rest of her life. He could leave the woman and her child anytime he wants, and she could end up left with the child trying to survive off meager child support for the rest of her life.
What do you mean if what if the woman was "compensated" anyway?
Considering that women can very much risk death in labor/child birth, its not something a woman should be forced to do just to make some pro-life activist happy.
My mother died twice during the birth of my brother, he even died once himself, her labor went on for days and in the end my brother had to be delivered by c-section, because it turned out that my mothers hips were fused together and couldn't let my brother out. The doctors told my father that my brother could be seriously brain damaged because of what happened- he was terrified, he had almost lost his wife and his newborn son, only to be told that his son could be brain damaged because of what happened.
In the end, as the years went by my brother turned out that he wasn't brain damaged, but it did greatly effect my fathers relationship with him, since my fathers greatest fear was to have a brain damaged child, so he ended up emotionally distancing himself from my brother quite a lot, and by the time we realized he was normal, it was too late to repair some of the damage done between my father and my brother in their relationship.
