Dear native English speakers,
Would (a) and (b) be used interchangeably?
(a) My uncle will be ABC Company's president next month.
(b) My uncle will be president of ABC Company next month.
I think we would say The President of ... rather than ....'s President. Or use it adjectiveley instead of possessively, i.e Nissan president Ghosn, ....
I couldn't find much on it on the net apart from this German site but I think it is accurate. People and animals usually use possessive "s" and things use "of the" whereas in Japanese it seems to be translated with the possessive s by default or if someone is unsure.
By the way, which version do British people say more commonly, "My uncle will be president of ABC Company next month" or "My uncle will be the president of ABC Company next month"?
I tihnk in England you would normally use "the President", like we'd say "play the guitar" and "play the piano" where "the" might be omitted by Americans.
