This is a survey by the AAI to have an estimation of how many non believers there are in the world and other information about them.. if you're a non believer, please participate, and if you're not you may be interested to look at the stats..

There are two surprise countries in the top 10: Poland (6th now) and Iran (9th).. I'm less surprised about Iran though since I already heard from various informal sources that it had a large community of non believers.. I don't see much participation from countries where non religiosity is supposed to be in the majority (Japan, Vietnam, Sweden, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, etc).. also, a smaller surprise, Syria seems to be leading the Arab speaking countries.. most people I know thought Egypt and Morocco had the largest non religious communities, but the poll started just 4 days ago, so maybe we should wait..

And finally, there are 2 people (female) who voted from North Korea.. I wonder who they might be..

You can check the FAQ for more information..

Atheist Census - Numbers matter. Be counted.

P.S. It says "atheist census" but you actually have the option to choose other titles like "agnostic", "freethinker", etc.

I can not understand why are You requiring e-mail address for validation? That census project looks like preparation to another Crystal Night thou.

Beware, scam ...

It requires an email to make sure the stats are as authentic as possible.. and it's not me who's conducting the survey, it's the AAI, Atheist Alliance International, a well-known global organisation: Atheist Alliance International - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

From their FAQ:

3. Who is behind Atheist Census?

Atheist Census is a project of Atheist Alliance International (AAI), a global alliance of atheist/freethought groups and individuals. AAI's website is Atheist Alliance International - Welcome!.

4. What will the information be used for?

Aggregated to the country level, the information collected by Atheist Census is freely available through the Atheist Census website so that atheists can demonstrate their presence in their own countries. AAI would be pleased to discuss other uses of the information with like-minded groups or individuals.

5. Why do I have to provide my email address to participate in Atheist Census?

To ensure that the data collected by Atheist Census is credible each person is only permitted to have one entry in Atheist Census. While we cannot guarantee that each person has only one email address, this approach is a practical way to limit the risk of duplication.

6. Why do I need to verify my information through the email confirmation?

To ensure that the data collected by Atheist Census is credible we need to check that a real person is behind each submission.

Sorry for accusing You in collecting e-mail addresses, I overreacted.

However, You quoted their FAQ to explain why they are collecting e-mail addresses. I'd say, these reasons are 'sucked from a thumb', sorry for that comparision. Provided addresses will never prove any credability, and the only reason, why these people are collecting them, is a scamming. That proposal to look for statistic is also scam, because that statistic is DEFINITELY fabricated.

Sorry for accusing You in collecting e-mail addresses, I overreacted.

No problem! :)

Provided addresses will never prove any credability,

It's the best insurance you can have, unless you want them to ask for your telephone number or your home address, which would be a real breach on people's privacy, and may actually put some people in danger (those residing in countries like Saudi Arabia or Iran where you could get the death penalty for apostatizing).

and the only reason, why these people are collecting them, is a scamming.

And how did you reach that conclusion? As I said, it's a well-known organisation with a clear purpose that's conducting the survey.. you can check it our by yourself on the web..

That proposal to look for statistic is also scam, because that statistic is DEFINITELY fabricated.

Again, how do you know that? On what basis can you say it's fabricated? The poll started just 4 days ago, and it's quite normal that English speaking countries will be on the top list at the beginning, because the link will spread more quickly on English pages.. also countries where non believers feel the most threatened will probably make the list too, because they'd be more present on atheist websites, while in countries like Sweden where they don't even care what Church you go to and a lot of people don't even bother to call themselves "atheists" or "agnostics", etc, there'll be much less presence on non religious Internet forums and groups, and therefore less chance they'd hear about the poll at this stage..

It's the best insurance you can have...
...
And how did you reach that conclusion?

One is a coming from another. If e-mail address could not be used for user verification in a poll, that means it collected for some another reason, and they are providing false reason for collectin, thou it is scam by nature. I would not like to speak about technical aspects of that poll, just imagine hundred chinese programmers who will fill thair survey with billion of real e-mail addresses; or ... there are many transparent ways how user could be identified with high probability without collecting e-mail addresses - all that is very well known and wide used technologies. So, let me conclude e-mail addresses are collected for scamming purpose only.

As I said, it's a well-known organisation with a clear purpose that's conducting the survey..

Yeah, You are right, it is well known organisation :) I get know about it some time in last century, when similar atheistic organisation from russia did try to contact these and had some minor problems. Thay did try to find mind brothers in totally free democratic world, I would not tell what thay did find. And You are right again, purpose of that survey is clear, and I wrote about that purpose little earlier.

You know, existence of such 'organisations' contradicts to the nature of atheism. Such formations necessary for church to tithe parish. :D

Again, how do you know that? On what basis can you say it's fabricated?
Just because it is scamming place, that means data is fabricated.
BTW, even if it is not, You should not trust poll data, because it is bogus.

Piece and prosperity 🙂

He-he ... You are right, but not in that particular case. That is not about limitations, that is about scamming. And AAI ' it's a well-known organisation with clear pupose'. BTW, just go to their site and You will find all that commercial BS, like a statement 'We are umbrella for all atheists in the world', free downloadable magazine, and shop which sells beads for aborigenes: As's seen on TV!

That is another scam machine, and that poll is needed only to collect e-mail addresses.

One is a coming from another. If e-mail address could not be used for user verification in a poll,

That's the thing, it CAN be used for verification.. it's just not an absolute assurance, because people can have several emails.. if they ask for any additional information they may put some people in danger.. in some Islamic countries atheists are/were jailed and/or attacked by a mob simply for expressing their own opinions on the Internet.. see the case of Alber Saber in Egypt and Alexander Aan in Indonesia, and there a lot of similar cases, past and current, and probably more to come..

And frankly, instead of making all this fuss, why not just give them a secondary email like a lot of people probably did? I personally have an email just for this kind of stuff..

just imagine hundred chinese programmers

Yes, "imagine".. that's all you're doing.. imagining a conspiracy based on some facts you made up yourself.. you have not provided a single proof that the AAI is handing the collected emails over to a third party.. not even a past anecdote, or a shady point about the organisation..

who will fill thair survey with billion of real e-mail addresses

The emails are encrypted, according the AAI.. even if someone hacked into their database, they'd get nothing but the poll data, the ones everyone can see..

I get know about it some time in last century, when similar atheistic organisation from russia did try to contact these and had some minor problems. Thay did try to find mind brothers in totally free democratic world, I would not tell what thay did find.

I have no idea what you're rambling about..

And You are right again, purpose of that survey is clear, and I wrote about that purpose little earlier.

What part of "well-known global organisation" do you find hard to understand? What gain would the AAI have by selling the emails, when it clearly states that it does not intend to hand them to a third party? Why would it do that when it's 1/ a non profit organisation, 2/ its purposes have nothing to do with what you've been talking about. Please don't make accusations without proof.

You know, existence of such 'organisations' contradicts to the nature of atheism. Such formations necessary for church to tithe parish. :D

It does not. No one said the AAI, or similar organisations, are churches. They're not imposing views or doctrines on anyone. Simply fulfilling a much needed role informing people about who atheists and non believers are, given that:

1/ Atheists are misunderstood in many regions of the world.
2/ Atheists and non believers in general are in danger of mistreatment, marginalization, and sometimes imprisonment and death penalty in many regions of the world. If anything we need more such organisations, especially in the Middle East and some parts of Asia.

Just because it is scamming place, that means data is fabricated.

You have not provided any proof that there's a scam, much less that the data is fabricated.

BTW, even if it is not, You should not trust poll data, because it is bogus.

First, the poll just started. Secondly, it certainly does not map all non believers in the world, only those who have Internet access, and who, for some reason, have heard about the poll. So obviously it's biased to an extent. But if analysed correctly it could be a source of valuable data.

You have not provided any proof that there's a scam, much less that the data is fabricated.

Touche. You have not provided any proof that they are not a scammers either, moreother, using these well unknown personalities, like Alber Saber and Alexander Aan, You are make me think that You are just a messenger, part of that conspiracy I imagined by myself. You know, there is similar conspiracy guy pooping forum with penguine (dolphine) massacre.

And I will repeat one more time, to create well secured poll with verifiable results collecting of e-mail addresses is not necessary. That type of information is collected by scammers only in nowadays. That is the only tru fact in that thread.

BTW, I lost my interest to that discussion. 🙂

Touche. You have not provided any proof that they are not a scammers either,

Au contraire my friend, the simple fact that they have no record of scamming since the organisation was founded in 1991, that it's a global and recognized organisation, who's "committed to educating the public about atheism, secularism and related issues" (quoted from wikipedia) means that they gain nothing and lose everything by scamming people in this instance.

moreother, using these well unknown personalities, like Alber Saber and Alexander Aan,

The point was not that they're known or unknown. I gave them as an example of the dangers non believers face in some regions, namely Islamic countries. And if you were just following the news (not on TV of course), you would have heard of them.

You are make me think that You are just a messenger, part of that conspiracy I imagined by myself.

Yeah, whatever..

And I will repeat one more time, to create well secured poll with verifiable results collecting of e-mail addresses is not necessary.

How? IP and physical addresses won't do..

That type of information is collected by scammers only in nowadays. That is the only tru fact in that thread.

Scammers ask for your email (and sometimes more than that). Not everyone who asks for your email is a scammer.

BTW, I lost my interest to that discussion. 🙂

Suit yourself. Have a good day..

And as I said, you have the option of using a secondary or a throwable email, so I don't really see what all this fuss was about..
