Hello everyone!
I havent posted on this site in almost 5 years, and even back then, I only had a couple posts.
Anyways, here is my tale:
I've been a fan of all things Japanese since 1996. I first discovered anime, but my true love was for the Japanese pop and rock musicians, as well as the fashion and architecture of the Tokyo scene. Back then, there weren't too many english resources on the internet, so I made my own site around 1998. It became fairly popular, despite its lack of extensive information. It was mostly driven by vivid graphics and photos of performers. It was my own little way of having a shrine to the country I yearned to experience.
I always wanted to visit Japan, but never really had a good opportunity or the money to do such a thing. As the years went on, and I got older, the dream started to fade away. My love for Japanese things remained (my cubicle is jammed with toys), but the fantasy of throwing down the cash to fly across the world was becoming an impossibility.
I'm now reaching the age where that sort of money should be put towards more responsible things, like a down payment on a house, or a newer car. I barely have enough money for my wife and I to scrape by, much less fund an international trip.
One of my coworkers is on the final days of a 2 week trip to Tokyo. This trip reminded me of my dream, and brought about some sadness.
But, my luck was about to change...
Not too long ago, I entered myself into a sweepstakes held by a major anime company. I almost never enter these types of things, so it was kind of strange. In fact, I had forgotten about it almost instantly afterwards.
A couple months passed...
I was driving home from work this past Monday, and my phone made the noise it makes when I receive an email. I grabbed my phone, and peeked at the message..
To make a long story short, I won the sweepstakes, and the winning prize is a trip to Japan. I won a 10-day trip to Japan.
My dream will finally come true, and I couldn't possibly be happier. I will prolly spend a lot of time on this forum in the next couple of months preparing for my trip and learning.
