A questions on condiments

A friend of mine has what seems to be a little jug with the folowing characters on them: 月桂冠.
It could be Chinese in origin but Halpern's KLD does translate it as "Laurel Wreath". Which is odd because a "wreath" is, I believe, a crown or some sort of circular arrangement of flowers (But I'm French, so I could be mistaken). Why would a little jug of 5 inches in height with an opening no bigger than my little finger have "Laurel Wreath" written on it ? I can't even fit a full laurel leaf in it. Maybe the last character is ambiguous and suggests another mode in which laurel could be chopped and inserted in the jug ?

I might be mistaken too, but I thought that the laurel wreath was the thing that Julius Caesar wore on his head. It could easily be a brand name, and not an actual description of the product inside. I would like to help, but the computer I'm using at the moment can't handle Japanese text.

Honestly speaking, I have no idea but will give it a try.

In Japan, there is a sake (rice wine) brand named Gekkeikan, written in the kanji you used. Can it be some sort of a giveaway item given to customers by the brewer?

Aaaaah! Indeed.
I looked up their web site at Gekkeikan-Sake aaaand it's exactly the typeface presented on the jug. And the logo is, basically, a laurel corona.
Of course, I am not affiliated with this company. But it's a good guess that what I saw was a freebie of some sort. I'll ask my friend again for more details.
