No. Japanese has grammar and sentence structure. You can't just look up kanji or words in a dictionary and tack them together and expect turn to make sense.

Completely wrong. It's just an enumeration of nouns; "beauty, body, heart, spirit". Please read Mike-san's post again. What you are doing is just to list English words, something like "person, beauty, body, have", without knowing any basic grammar such like words order, the difference between beauty and beautiful, or the difference in meaning and usage among have, has and had.

There you go. I won't bother explaining that kanji may have multiple meanings and readings and when transliterating you're just trying to find characters that could conceivably combine to make a sound like your name and don't translate to "dog fart mountain."

Besides, as long as the other person doesn't read Chinese or Japanese, you can tell them the characters mean anything you want, right?

He gave you exactly what you asked. That site gives you various kanji you can use to make the sounds in your name. It came up with 4000 (10x10x10x4) possibilities. The default one was: 利智耶努. So just pick whatever you like from the drop-downs and you're good to go.

Ah, I'm sorry I didn't answer your question the way you asked it.

The short answer is "yes...kind of." You can stop reading now if that's all you were asking for.

One one hand, yes, you can write something like your name using Kanji. In fact, there are LOTS of ways to do it. See my last comment (you're welcome, by the way). If you want the closest Japanese approximation to your name that anyone can actually read and understand as the non-Japanese name "Richard," you're better off using katakana, リチャード

In Chinese, there is no phonetic script and your name would be written using the characters (often ones set aside for transliteration) that have something approximating the sound of your name. Each character has only way to pronounce it, so it's easier for Chinese people to read it aloud, but as names are only written with two characters, your name would be shortened to "Lǐ chá." At first glance, it's immediately apparent that it's a foreigner's name and pronounced in Chinese "Lǐ chá," but that's about it.
