Hullo all...I'm new here so thought I should introduce myself, I'm Sophie, and i live in Lincoln, in England.

I stumbled accorss this forum whilst doing some research for an assignment I'm currently doing, which brings me to my next point...I was wondering if any of you would be able to help me?

You see...I'm currently undertaking my degree in journalism, and have been asked to produce 10 feature articles to give in as assignments on whatever topics i should choose to do.

For one of them, I have decided to write an article on the rising popularity of Japanese culture in the western world, and am looking for some quotes and opinions from various people to include in my work/use for research etc.

This is where you come in m'dears! I am asking if anyone out there would like to voice their opinions on the subject - Just any general thoughts or ideas on the topic at all.

If i use your quotes/use this for research etc etc etc I shall OF COURSE reference/cite you in the text etc, and even include a link to your website or something if you want, whatever you shall ask me to do in return really.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and again, hello to you all

Much love,

Sophie x

OMG JPAN IZ TEH TOTAL RAWKS OMGOMGOMG!!11one
and you can quote me on that!

I'm just kidding...
Maybe you should check out the what are your interests for Japan thread. It might give an idea of why people are getting more and more interested in Japan... It's just peoples personal opinions from these boards though...

I dare you to include Mac's quote.

Hello from a fellow journalism student by the way. I'll post something later, when I'm mildly less busy!

I think espescially in fashion, people are getting more and more interested in Japan because in atleast Europe the fashion industry just recycles the same things over and over again. It does it in cycles so that when one generation has experienced it, after 20 years another generation is ready for it again. Also, the Japanese take something from the West but they customise it to fit themselves - this applies to many other things besides fashion, I think.

Funny -- fashion seemed to not change in the 7 years I was in Japan. For high-dollar designer stuff, yes. But for what normal peopel wear..

On-topic:
I think there's too many things to list. There's defintiely a Japan-boom going on. Anime has definitely been a driving force, followed by games, which is becoming a massive industry in the states. I can't imagine Japanese culture being so different from western as not being another point of interest.

Just some thoughts.
