As I have noted in the past, the World Yo-Yo Contest (WYYC) used to be held at the same venue in Orlando, Florida, for over a decade since 2000. Many of the kids who grew up making the annual pilgrimage to Florida had hoped that some day it could itself move around to make it more accessible to players around the world, and in the 2010's that dream was realized and the contest was unmoored from Orlando. Now, it revolves between Europe, Asia, and North America. The covid pandemic interrupted that cycle and it rebooted in 2023 in Osaka, as I covered previously.
It then bounced to Cleveland in 2024, and Prague in 2025, and now it's time to come back to Asia. This year, it will be in Himeji, Japan!
I'm coming in August to help volunteer at the event, and then I'll be doing some more traveling, including showing my mom around Japan for the first time! I'll be capping off my time with another round of karate training in Okinawa.
