被ヒット question

I'm playing this mecha (robot) combat game and I was checking the combat records ( (http://imgur.com/lFmuSRv) ).
I'm wondering about the meaning of the statistics that have 被. What does 被ヒット mean and who does it refer to?
Also, how can the 被最大ダメージ数 value be higher than 被総ダメージ数? I thought 総 means "total". Can it mean" average" here (sum divided by count)?

Another example from the net - 被ヒット時に相手に「物理近接ダメージと攻撃速度を増加させる」効果を与える。 (from Curse - Path of Exile Wiki
Does 被ヒット時に相手に "when (someone) gets hit by (the curse-Punishment)..."?

Maybe "incoming"? Hits, damage, etc. to you?

I don't think it means average and total or overall is correct. Is it possible for the overall damage level to diminish over time? Maybe the robots are fixing the damage.

被 is a frequently used "prefix" kanji and means to be receiving xxx, to be under xxx, to be the object of xxx, etc..

Examine the following and you'll perhaps get a better idea of it:

被害者 (person receiving damage (victim))
被疑者 (person under suspicion (suspect))
被保険者 (insured person)
被写体 (object being photographed)

被最大ダメージ数 and 被総ダメージ数 don't make much sense in the first place. It should be 最大被ダメージ数 and 総被ダメージ数.

相手 refers to the one who hits you, and they get an effect(= 物理近接ダメージと攻撃速度を増加させる) because of the curse of "Punishment".
