忘れずに

Hi,
I encountered this form (忘れずに) in my textbook without any explanations; it just said it was equal to 忘れないで. I'm guessing this is some kind of verb form? My questions would be;
1. Is it a verb form?
2. How do you form it for other verbs?
3. What do you use it for?

Do you understanding the meaning of "naide" ?

「premasu stem + ずに」の方がちよっと堅い言い方ですね。
「ないで」が日常会話では多く使われるでしょう。

意味は同じです。
どちらも良いです。

In contemporary/modern grammar (for non-native Japanese speaker),

忘れないで
忘れない(nai-form of the verb "忘れる") + で(particle)

There's another theory of Japanese grammar called 国文法(kokubunpou), which is originated from the archaic grammar.
In 国文法,

忘れないで
忘れ(imperfective form of the verb "忘れる") + ない(conclusive form of the auxiliary verb "ない") + で(particle)

忘れずに
忘れ(imperfective form of the verb "忘れる") + ず(conclusive form of the archaic auxiliary verb "ず") + に(particle)

So, as Elizabeth mentioned, ないで is more colloquial.

You can simply exchange ないで for ずに, except in the case of "noun + する".

e.g. 失敗する
失敗しないで失敗せずに

ところで、よく、新聞などでは、「ずに」の「に」を飛ばされたりしますよね。

しかし、日本語を始めてすぐの頃は、教科書には従うべきだと思います。
