Hi,

「それじゃ、君、十七歳なの？」

Furigana じゅうなな is written next to 十七歳. The book I'm reading omits furigana for "easy" kanji, so I suppose this is for some special purpose.

1. The way it's written, it looks very much as if the whole of 十七歳 is read じゅうなな, not just 十七. Is that correct? Why not じゅうななさい?

2. What is the difference, if any, between じゅうしち and じゅうなな? Why would you choose one rather than the other?

Yes, 十七歳 is read じゅうなな as a whole, probably to show that's colloquial/friendly talking.

2)
じゅうなな is more common.

Thanks, would it work to just write 「それじゃ、君、十七なの？」? I don't see any plausible interpretation other than 十七 being an age. I wonder why the author bothered to write it differently from how it was supposed to have been spoken.

Hmm, the author's preference would be the best answer, I suppose. 十七歳なのconveys the meaning more directly just at a glance than 十七なの, just my impression.
