I was looking at a sample test for JLPT 5.

The question was:
あそこで タクシーに ______

I chose はいりました。
The answer is のりました。

Is it as simple as the difference in English? Since we would likely say, I got in a taxi versus I entered a taxi?

Thanks.

入る would not be strictly incorrect, but 乗る is the more common way to express that idea, so that is the correct answer.
