はじめまして、名前はEdwinです。日本語を勉強のよていからここにいるよ。大学でコンピュターサイエンスを勉強。子供のごろで日本のビデオゲームを遊んだから、日本語を勉強したい。

My name is Edwin, I found this forum while searching for a good place to learn and practice Japanese more. I'm a university student majoring in computer science. As for the reason why I'm interested in learning Japanese, it's because I played Japanese video games back then when I was younger. Well, I haven't been playing many video games in recent years and I've just started to learn Japanese properly about 3 months ago.

Hi Edwin!

Welcome to the forum. It's nice to have someone on the forum who s majoring in Computer science :D (do you have a mac?)

For someone who is just studying for 3 months your Japanese is pretty good :D Keep it up!

Nope, I'm more a PC person :D

Ah, I learned to construct basic sentences and how read hiragana and katakana a few years ago. I stopped learning after that, though. I've just started to learn it again recently, and it's a good thing that I still remember stuffs I learned back then. :D

Welcome Edwin,

I'm going to be going back to school some for computer science soon haha I hope its not to hard lol

Also I just started learning japanese about acouple 2 weeks ago and how are you learning it ?

You're going to study computer science too? I think it's not that hard, I'd say it's around 7/10 in difficulty.

I'm learning Japanese mostly by listening to Japanese songs, watching anime, and training my mind to think using Japanese (since my English teacher once said that it's much easier to learn a language if we can respond to anything said in that language without translating it to our native language). I don't read often, since I kinda have difficulty with kanji characters. I want to start learning kanji, but I'm wondering where to start. Oh, I had a half-Japanese friend helping me to explain some stuffs about the language at the first time I tried to learn it, plus some online sources for grammar references. :D

ah ok so computer science shouldn't be to hard then haha i'd say for learning kanji, i'd learn the hiragana first for the words and then work them in to learn it but that's how i'm learning it haha also another what helps for learning is prob by pictures as well.

If you want we can help each other learn.

Well, the difficulty is different for each person, though. I personally think it isn't that hard, but it's not that easy either. I guess the best way would be experiencing it by yourself and see what do you think about the courses :D

I started from hiragana and katakana, so I've got no problem reading text with few kanji characters with the power of Rikaikun (a Google Chrome add-on). It is a problem if the text have many kanji characters though, since I'm going to spend more time trying to read the kanji than reading the entire article.

That's a nice offer, it'd be great to have someone else to learn with. I'd say yes to that 👍

Yep. I don't use it often, though. But you can give me yours via private message, I'll add yours.
