I know that けど connect two sentences to express a contradiction and also is used merely as a general connector of two separate sentences with not meaning of contradiction.but i also have seen けど at the end of a sentence with no following sentence to connect.which is its use when is at the end of a sentence with not following sentence?

The following sentence is implied. You have to fill in the blanks yourself.

行きたいけど...

...都合がわるい
...残業しなければならない
...もっと好きな友達と遊びに行く予定があります

I often use 行きたい(んです)けど… to ask for directions, as the implied second half in the right context is 道を教えていただけますか?

Yes it's a very useful phrase. You can also say something like
ウンチしたいですけど
and the clerk will get the gist of your meaning especially if you use the appropriate facial expressions.
And if you want to use more polite phrasing and really impress them you can say
ウンチさせていただきたいですけど
