a few weeks ago my Japanese friend told me that お腹がすいた is the normal way to say you're hungry. Yesterday I came upon the following expression while doing a textbook exercise:
食べたいです。お腹がすいていますから。
What's the difference between お腹がすいた and お腹がすいている?
Yes, they express the result of a change rather than actions in progress. So I understand it as 'My stomach is empty= Im hungry'. But, if I understand correctly, the past form expresses a finished action: My stomach became empty -> Im hungry. Would they mean the same then?
