JR Central is set to trial a pet-friendly car on the Tokaido Shinkansen, the high-speed line connecting Tokyo and Osaka. This initiative aims to cater to the growing demand from passengers who want to travel with their dogs without confining them to carriers.
In a recent media interview, JR Central President Shunsuke Niwa stated that the company recognizes travellers' desire to enjoy journeys with their beloved pets. This trial will be the second for Shinkansen services, following a similar test conducted by East Japan Railway Co. Pet-friendly cars will have air purifiers and pet toilet sheets to maintain a hygienic environment. Furthermore, JR Central plans to ensure that these cars are not used for regular passenger services outside the trial period.
