Yamaguchi City has achieved a significant milestone: It has been selected for the prestigious Swiss Tourism Awards, which recognize outstanding tourist destinations worldwide. Following in the footsteps of Kyoto , the first Asian city to receive the award in 2023, Yamaguchi is the second Japanese city to be honoured. Yamaguchi Mayor Kazuki Ito announced the city's selection at a press conference on 28 August. The Yamaguchi Municipal Government attributed the award to the city's rich cultural heritage, exemplified by the five-story pagoda at Rurikoji temple, a national treasure in Kozancho. Additionally, the city's positive reputation on social media played a role in the selection.
