Sudden Shower in the Summer Heat (暑中の夕立, Shochū no yūdachi), c. 1849–1851, by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (歌川国芳, 1798–1861). One panel from a colour woodblock triptych showing three women caught in a sudden summer downpour in Edo. Kuniyoshi used dense lines of driving rain, wind-blown clothing, and tilted umbrellas to capture the force of a typical summer yūdachi.
