Utagawa Yoshitora (歌川芳虎, fl. mid-19th century), Taiheiki Eiyūden: Sasaki Rokurō Yoshikata (太平記英勇傳 佐々木六郎義賢) — Edo period, colour woodblock print (ukiyo-e). The print portrays Rokkaku Yoshikata (六角義賢, 1521–1598), also known as Sasaki Rokurō, the Sengoku-period lord of southern Ōmi and head of the Rokkaku clan. Seated in formal robes decorated with the clan's 隅立て四つ目 ([i]Sumitate Yotsume[/i]) crest, Yoshikata is shown beside pieces of armour, emphasising both his military authority and aristocratic status. The work forms part of Yoshitora's Taiheiki Eiyūden (“Heroes of the Taiheiki”) series, which depicted famous warriors and military figures from Japanese history in a dramatic late-Edo style inspired by medieval war tales.
