Hi,

I am a student from LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore and I'm currently pursuing my Degree in Product Design.

It is compulsory for me to go on internship during my study term. As I am deeply in love with the Japanese culture, and I am also a humungous fan of anime. Therefore, I would really love to be able to intern in Japan.

As a young budding product/industrial designer, I often seek inspiration from all things around me. And recently I found out that books and the web is not enough to broaden my knowledge anymore. Going overseas to experience different culture and looking at things through your very own eyes is the way to learn more. After all, nothing beats the actual building/sculpture itself.

I am also interested in doing illustration and graphic designing. Because to me, being a designer doesn't mean you have to be confined by your own expertise. Yes, it is priority to be good at your specialty. But I believe that having different skills in the different aspects of designing is important too.

It would most certainly be an honour for me to be able to work in a design company located in Japan.

Are there any recommendations/connections that I can seek from here so that I can be able to commence my internship in Japan? I would greatly appreciate your help!

Thank you so much,
Ji Siang

Hi Glenski!

Yes I did! I am keeping my options open and also would like to go into different fields of design. I would most certainly send my resume/CV through "Japan Internship Design" but in the mean time I would also like to seek more companies in Japan.

I actually posted another thread but it somehow got deleted.

I am actually more interested interning at a company that designs/makes the anime figurines. I understand that most of these figurines are under Bandai Toys or Banpresto. Is there any company that I can try with regards to this?

Regards,
Ji Siang

Have you tried typing "Japan internship design" into Google?

You should have received a notification when I deleted your other thread - it was basically a duplicate of this one.

I would suggest talking to your lecturers, particular any who have links to Japan. Your chances of getting a good placement by cold application are pretty low.

I agree with nekojita. If you qualify for a work visa, then make some contacts before you leave home, plan to come here at a decent time of year, and learn how to look for work. Some people stay in guest houses (gaijin houses) so they can mingle with other people and get tips on various things. Good luck.

I remember trying to apply for placements as an undergrad.

Weeks of searching and dozens of emails/cvs/etc: no luck, not even a form rejection 95% of the time.

Five minutes talking to a lecturer: he rang up a guy, placement sorted.
