TiTech IGP Questions

Yes, it turns out the chairman letter would be fine too. Anyway, i shipped my documents now. Hoping for the best

So who else got the date for the final interview? I'm surprised I made it to this stage and been studying like crazy for it

Hello everyone! I am also an applicant for the IGP (A) Program of Bioengineering. Anyone here who is also applying to that program?

Hello guys. I have applied to IGP(A) Program too and have done the interview in November.
Have anyone got result for the IGP Program?

Hello! I just got mine today. An email was sent to me by the IGP informing me that I am approved and a recommended recipient for MEXT scholarship. I also applied for IGP (A) under the Bioengineering program.

I received an email stating that I am recommended and conditionally approved as a MEXT scholarship recipient. Hoping for the best.

Hello Naveed! The email sent to me goes this way, "It is my pleasure to inform you that you were recommended and approved by Tokyo Tech as a successful recipient of the MEXT Scholarship at the meeting. To finalize the recommendation, however, we have to confirm that you still intend to study at Tokyo Tech from October 2015 and that you will enroll in the International Graduate Program for Bioscience and Biotechnology, under the scheme of the Integrated Doctoral Education Program for your Master's and Doctoral degrees. If this is your intent, please send me a confirmation email by February 2, 2015." By the way, may I know what is your program? I haven't seen anyone applying to the Bioscience and Biotechnology here.

@greenarcher
You have received official approval of MEXT from titech. It means you are definitely getting the scholarship. Congrats :)
In my case, I have to go through another screening process so it's not set in stone yet. Btw, I am applying to the Computer science program

Yes it is. I'm really happy right now. Computer Science? I think its more difficult to enter to that program than mine. That is more of TIT's specialty. I am wishing you the best too.

Hello everyone! Just want to ask something regarding the amount of money that you brought when you came to Japan. I think, in the MEXT scholarship guidelines, it is advised to bring at least USD2000 to cover immediate needs. Base on your own experience, is this amount just right or more than enough? On my case, I had to work for that amount because I am not from an affluent family. And, that is quite a big amount for me. Hoping that someone will respond. Thank you!

Hello,

For the first time, I've spent about 1000 USD in October. There are several payment that you need to pay, such as insurance, both from government and the campus, commuter pass, and mostly you willnspend for train ticket before you get the commuter pass. I think the total train fare would be quite a lot because you need to commute everyday for about a week until you get your commuter pass. Another is optional, like paying internet in your room. I paid it for 6 months in advance so that it amount is quite huge. I also paid the commuter pass for 6 months. If you don't have much money, you can pay for only 1 month first and wait for the scholarship. You can save up like 200 usd. Also, if you avoid travel around tokyo until you get the scholarHip, you will save more.

Hello! How I got into the scholarship goes like this -
There was a group of professors from TIT who went to the university where I am studying MS Chemical Engineering. They conducted a promotional talk about graduate school in TIT. This happened last Septmeber. They were giving us 'tips' on how to apply for the admission and scholarship. Application for admission and MEXT scholarship are done simultaneously. The very first thing that I did is to look for a professor who would possibly accept me as his/her student. I was instructed by the secretary of the department where I plan to enroll to find at least 3 professors before the interview which will be held a month after. But, I only got two. I think that's the most difficult part of the application. I emailed like around 15(?) professors, only few responded, and only 2 agreed to attend the interview. During the interview, I asked with usual questions by the first professor (e.g. Why do you want to study in Japan? in TIT? What are your plans after finishing PhD?). The second professor asked technical questions (e.g. Kindly tell us your current research. Do you know what is racemic mixture? How will you deracemize the reduction of an alcohol? etc). The second professor was the one who finally accepted me. After that, I completed all the requirements. Deadline was December 1, and the documents arrived in TIT at exactly that day. So that's it!
I would also like to say that I never expected that this opportunity will come. So this is really a surprise.

Application period for titech should start near September of this year, so you should start working on your research plan right now and start looking for prospective advisors as well. You could apply for either April 2016 or October 2016 intake, but with april you cannot apply for MEXT.

Alternatively, you could also apply for mext through embassy recommendation. The application period for that should start in a month or two, so you should check your local Japanese embassy website.

Yes! I forgot to say that the research plan is also very important. Though on my case, it was a bit easier because the research proposal was just an extension of my current study in MS.

hmmm, but in my final year undergrad (8 th semester) and i would like to apply in my embassy since i am from a french speaking African country and i studied abroad (so i kinda have an English advantage) so my chances could be better. Furthermore , I am just starting my final year project and does the research plan mean an Abstract of my final year project? because i want to apply for Masters... in telecommunications .

No, it is not.
The research plan details the research that you are going to do in Japan.
I recommend you to find the research advisor and consult with him first.
