Using 述べる and 楽しむ to tell and to enjoy

Hi all is this the right way to use 述べる？
i'm trying to say. when tanaka san returned home from america he told his friends that he enjoyed hot dogs.

田中さんアメリカから帰るときにはホトドグを楽しむが友だちを述べた

can you use 楽しむlike that ?

or would you use
田中さんアメリカから帰るときにはホトドグを好むが 友だちを述べた

よろしくお願いします

What is your translation of "Tanaka san told his friends something(= なにか)"?

Both 楽しむ and 好む doesn't work well there.

"Hot dog" is ホットドッグ, not ホトドグ.

Very close. The correct answer is 田中さんは友だちになにかいいました. と indicates what Takaka-san really said, i.e., your translation actually means 'Tanaka-san said "なにか" to his friend.' But, fortunately, this is more close to the original sentence. See the difference between 田中さんは友だちに「なにか」といいました and your initial translation 田中さん…が友だちを述べた, especially particles.

田中さんアメリカから帰るときには友だちに「ホットドッグがすきです」といいました

Yeah, that's far better than the previous one. Here's another particle issue.

田中さんは友だちになにかといいました
田中さん＿アメリカから

I would use 満喫する for "to enjoy" there.

"To return home" is usually translated to 帰国する.

「ホットドッグを満喫しました」と言いました is correct as a direct quotation, i.e., ホットドッグを満喫しました is exactly what 田中さん said. You can use an indirect quotation by changing the polite form into non-polite form and taking out the quotation marks 「」.

帰るときには implies that he didn't use to enjoy hot dogs.

I never been used like that but i heard some people talking like that when i was in Japan Workshop place.
they seemd to want to say what other people's feeling 'enjoy' very politely.

Oh, I meant "by changing the polite form of the quotation into non-polite form". Sorry for your confusion.
Both とき and ときに are OK. ときに sounds more colloquial.
