What does ”高い” mean in this sentence / meaning of phrase?

Hi!
I've been talking to a few Japanese friends recently, and we were talking about our countries/where we are currently.
When I mentioned I was in Australia, one of them asked me: "今時間は日が高いんですか"
This confuses me a bit - what does the adjective 高い mean here?
And more importantly, what is my friend trying to ask?
Is it something similar to "Is it a day earlier in your time" (relating to time difference)?

日 means "the sun", not "day" in this case. Thus, he/she is asking if the sun is high now in your country.
