oh... so Ms. Yin will tell for those who are did not passed the interview too? so, i think it will be tomorrow evening. As Saturday is holiday, so she will have some time for not receiving any call at least until Monday morning.
from 7 applicants from Montenegro, there are now 4 of us .. passed the english test today, interview is tomorrow.. wish me luck

Just for curiosity sake, has anyone heard if MEXT is increasing the number of grantees this year? It just occurred to me that the number of people at the interview increased from the previous year.. and I hoping it's due to the fact that they are increasing the quota

yes radiuse, but Malaysia has about 28 000 000 people, and Montenegro just about 670 000

No, decreased here with 1 person less. But they might have increased the quota in other countries.
Overall, there is a goal set for increasing the number of foreign students in Japan to 300 000 people until 2020, but the financial crisis rather slowed that down... Another aspect is seriously decreased scholarship and it keeps decreasing almost every year.
i hope both of us will get scholarship !I have a interview tomorrow too !

There is. We've been told that the quota here is 11 people.
The embassy here says that there's no quota. At least not for the Japanese Studies Scholarship. I'm guessing it wouldn't be any different with the other scholarships either.
Like you said yourself, one less person was able to get the scholarship right?
Which would mean that granted it to someone else in another country. A fixed quota means that that it doesn't change.

Today we had our exams and interviews. Mine was kind of strange, facing the judges for the 3rd time. They said that I should try some other scholarships too T___T
I'm so in love with Japan that I don't really care studying somewhere else... I know that my destiny is in there, I don't know what should I do if I don't get it this time...
Anyway, I'll let you know when the results are announced, I still have faith in it.

just my opinionﾂ… when they suggested you to try for some other scholarships, they prob meant applying for other scholarships (maybe more suitable ones?), and are not discouraging you from furthering your studies in Japanﾂ…there's plentiful of scholarships available in Japan that are applicable only for existing students, so you'll have to be there to applyﾂ…. Most of these grants might not pay as well as MEXT though but you should be able to get by with some part time work
the gist is that since you're so motivated to study there, try looking other alternatives and not let this stop you =)
Maybe this really differs between countries because we do have a quota here, as far as I know fr last year.. well thanks for all the opinions! I guess what matters most is that we do our best and hopefully be successful! Ganbare~

Do you mean that they wont contact those unsuccessful candidates unless the person asked for his/her interview result?

i had my interview today, i'm waiting for the results now.. if i am chosen as the preliminary candidate, what's the chance that i'll get the scholarship? 60-70% ? after being chosen as preliminary candidate, i must obtain LoA of some Japanese university, and then MEXT will make final decision will they give me the scholarship or not, right?? do they usually turn down students who passed 1st screening and obtained LoA?

Japanese Studies Scholarship is completely different. All people who pass a certain level of the Japanese test go directly, there's really no further screening. Of course, they all pass also an interview in the embassy, but usually all of them get recommended.
While now, we're 18 people for an interview next week, and we've been told that 11 people will get the recommendation and the others will not (substitutes included, because they rarely make it). So it's not even Monbusho deciding, it's the embassy directly killing off the overquota people.
Or, they might give the recommendation to 13 people, expecting that 2 will fail to obtain LoAs or withdraw.
