Automerge is annoying!

If you make two posts several minutes apart in one thread, they merge. When I respond to two different people in one thread, carrying on two conversations on the same subject, it makes no sense for the two posts to be merged.

it's less annoying than a bunch of posts in a row from the same person. If you want to respond to multiple people, just quote them and respond in turn.

To the best of my knowledge, the automerge function was put into place to help protect against flammers. The key matter is as nice gaijin has pointed out...in the past we had had flammers of an anti-Japanese frame of mind (to be kind and polite) who had come bashing into the place and running off numerious illegitimate posts in a machine gun fashion.

The function had been set up, tested, and the present time count placed on it. I reason and agree that it's necessity is obvious enough. As for the small incovience that it can cause, please just think of the mess that it saves, in comparison, and try to work around...as giving a little more time to think over the wording of a post in mind, or quoting one post, and dragging and copying from any number of other posts, and then putting into one post dealing with replies to them.

It isn't half so annoying as when people specify a certain font and size for their posts.

Hint hint hint hint hint hint hint.

So the automerge feature is set at how many minutes? I mean, how many minutes do I have to wait, so the posts won't merge?

Let me guess, you're gonna go and bypass it now eh? :D Well, since the automerge function exists, they probably don't want you to have more than one post each time.

thats what mods are supposed to be there for -.-
my dad is a mod on d2jsp where theres thousands of times more people, spamming, and flamming and yet they dont use an auto merge feature
and if you wait the 5 mins a mod just merges the posts anyway so what ?
so yeah i agree that is an annoying function that should be thrown back into the fiery pits of whence it came and unclefrank for using it on my posts :p

Most rules have reasons behind them.

Chances are good that an Admin or moderator will not be on 24/7 , at least on this forum. We had members who would join and post pictures or links that were down right gross or SPAM. Some of our rules and features are based on that problem. We also have a rule here that a post should have some value or meaning when possible. We have a "grade" system here based on the number of posts a member makes. If we allow a member to make many many posts of no substance, it defeats the purpose of of that system which has been here for years. Your quiz has 80 questions; does it really make sense to you for you and other members to post 80 different posts to answer 1 quiz? I can see where a person might not want to answer all 80 questions at once, but you can usually go back and edit/add more answers at a later time. If the edit feature won't allow you add, change things after a certain amount of time, just ask a moderator to help you. It may take a while for a staff member to get back due to different time zones, but usually help requests are handled fairly fast.

most of those rules are contradictory

that just gives em something to do when they get on its still the job of the mods and thats why you IP ban them and its impossible to spam when you have to wait 120sec between posts
and where is this rule you speak of Forum Rules
what give you the right to say if it has value or meaning what you consider valuable maybe considered a piece of dog turd to me obviously the meaning is to get to know the other members, have fun, and get posts for that super awesome "grade" system and that is why it makes sense more posts means you rank up :p
but w/e if your not going to change it than just delete my topic because you cant complete the triforce with only 2 pieces :(

This is a privately owned site that you get to access for free. You either like it or lump it, but don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Only Admin can IP ban someone

Want to put money on that? Our regular little anti-japanese troll manages to spam and is one of the reasons for the 120 secs and automerge.

As Tsuyoiko sys this is a privately owned site, as are most other forums, and the rules have been put in place for various reasons, or would you perfer it to be more like 4chan?

The customs and practices of Jref accommodate to targeted members and said members hardly make complaints or mount arguments against the ways these customs and practices are. You cannot claim with any authority that there is a consensus among the members that the system is inadequate and that it must be changed. Point to all the members who are dissatisfied with how things are and if there is a substantial number of them, I am convinced that the persons in charge will investigate and take action. Unless and until you can do that, just quite whining.

almost all websites are privately owned we know this
other websites don't seem to have the same difficulty as you dealing with spammers and bots

that is why mods are supposed to have that power and you need better security
and who might be the targeted members ? you ?
i haven't claimed anything i was just saying that i don't like the auto merge , but maybe they don't want to say anything because you try to scare them with big words XD
well i can't very well point at anyone that i can't see XP
i was just stating my opinion suggesting to consider changing it
if you don't like it than go watch some bruno and have a good time with your hand 👍
i wasn't trying to make a big deal about it that's why i said if it's not going to change to just delete my topic, but apparently you get worked up over user comments easily

The whole auto merge thing is so banal that hardly anyone gives a damn.
The targeted members are simply a majority of users.
You can't really bring support, so there's no reason to presume that the views of the targeted members accord with yours, so there is no reason to make the changes proposed. If auto-merge doesn't bother people, why get rid of it?

May I, in turn, suggest that you provide yourself with carnal pleasure whilst watching the excellent performance of Hard Gay. Preferably through the insertion of a fist into a much concealed bodily orifice.

I don't get worked up over comments, you get aroused over banal stuff like the functions of a forum.
