Toeic!!

I received an e-mail from the good folks at Educational Testing Service, the organization that runs TOEIC, telling me that the test result had been made available online. So I went to the site, logged in and saw my score....
I scored 990! Yay!
I don't know why I am so excited. It's not like I've won any prize .... I am just glad that I know I could do well on a test. I never did that well in school and I think this is the first time in my life I have gotten a perfect score on anything. I hope this will help me finding an English-related job in some way sometime in the near future.
MTR guessed the correct score, and I might have said something silly.... like I would give a fantabulous gift to whoever guessed the my score. Although I never thought someone would actually get it right, I am a man of my word. MTR, please send me a PM with your address and I will send you something from the city of Ashikaga. Oh, you're an avid collector of postcards? Great!
Thank you for those who have posted on this thread for your advices and moral support.
990, well done, score better than what I ever could on that test.😌

Reading over the topic I see that's the perfect score. Damn, congratulations dude! You friggin' ACED that!!
yeah... I did, didn't I? lol Thank you, Putre.

OK, my apologies to you all for making this into one big brag-fest... and I know it is rather obnoxious. I should have done this on my blog or something. I was just excited about the whole thing and got carried away.

I will move on and go back to my boring life. :win:

I second that... 😌

Well, well, so it means you didn't make a single mistake?

What's worse is that I make the OTHERS toot my horn...

I don't know. It's possible that when I started this thread, I was subconsciously hoping that I would get a really good score and everyone would shower me with accolades.

What's strange is that each time I try to insert a sad face smiley to show how ashamed and sorry I am, it comes out :win:

LOL!
If I were you I would doing the same, again that is a great score and I hope it maybe opens some doors for you if that is what you were looking for.

Wow, you don't even read my reply! :?
They use statistical procedures for scoring, like the number of questions you get right is converted into a scale of 10-990 through some kind of statistical procedures, so a perfect score doesn't always mean 100% correct responses. (Just my firsthand experience.)

Oh, so they tabulate scores based on median average like "hensachi"?
If that's so, I can fully understand why Ashikaga got 990.
Thanks! 🙂

To be honest I am absolutely not surprised you got a perfect score, to be honest if it wasn't known you were born/raised in Japan I'd easily have thought you were brought up in an English speaking country.

Congratulations mate, you deserve it 📣

What are you trying to say, epigene? Hmm?

Thank you, Jericho.

It means MTR's prediction was 100% correct.
TOEIC scores are based on "relative" score rather than "absolute" score, meaning that you can get 990 even if you commit a couple of blunders, because you are compared against the rest of the test-takers (around the world) at that given examination.

I thought it was based on absolute scores and that you can't get 990 unless you are perfect, so I deducted some points from 990, for the number of blunders you might commit. (To err is human, you know...) :-)

No, no, no... What I meant was that it sounded like you thought that there was no way I could score 990 if that hadn't been the case...😊

Thank you & MTR for the explanation, though. I never understood how 窶「テ篠債キ窶冤 worked.

woaah wait, so hes been bragging and he didnt get 100% right?
lol :D
its like the CHSPE's grading system.

Yeah Ashikaga, your english is native-level. I would assume you were a native English speaker if I didnt already know you were japanese. ホントウ。

おめでとうございます!

My mail box is already flooded with mails from TOEIC people telling me to take other tests they offer. They have TOEIC SW (Speaking & Writing) as well as something called TOEIC LPI (Language Proficiency Interview).
Getting back to the topic of teaching TOEIC, my husband and I went out for dinner last night and passed by a pretty respectable English conversation school (not one of the big chains) in our neighborhood. I had been talking about this thread with him, and he decided that he wanted to check the school out. 😲

He went there, claiming he dropped by to ask for info for his kids (!!) and asked about TOEIC and TOEFL. The lady owner there was very helpful (who isn't?) and told him about the courses the school offers for college students and adults.
As I mentioned earlier, it seems that getting high scores (not talking about you ASHIKAGA but Japanese learners of English in general) have become easier with help of schools like this, especially because the main TOEIC test is multiple choice format. That is why TOEIC now has the S/W (Speaking/Writing) and LPI (personal interview) tests, as well as TOEIC Bridge for younger people (junior high/high school level). These tests reveal the person's true English ability and are becoming important.
TOEFL has also added essay writing as a requirement.

I don't think ASHIKAGA needs to take these tests, but study into these tests will be important in teaching. You need to teach how to make short speeches, write essays, and state opinions on common topics.

For the same reason, Eiken has become important because the first part of the test includes a writing test, and the second part (held on a separate date) requires you to make a short speech in front of the other test-takers and native-speaking STEP representatives.

I think your next step is Eiken Grade 1. It's a breeze in your case, so ganbattene! 🙂
FYI, Eiken Grade 1 notifies you whether or not you passed the first part of the test. If you pass the second (speaking) part, they give you your "hensachi" score, which is very much like that "hensachi" you get in testing for university admission.

woaah wait, so hes been bragging and he didnt get 100% right?
lol :D
Thank you very much, people. Now the score doesn't look that impressive...
Da*n you! D#mn you all!!!!!

Heeey... wait a second. There IS a possibility that I DID get 100% right, ya know...:auch:

Nooooo. I am DONE with tests!

Uh...did anyone else think he was a native English speaker besides me?

hahaha I had always known he was Japanese but I didnt know how thick his American accent was until I heard him speak in english for the first time haha.

As much as I enjoy the love fest this thread has turned into but it is getting a bit embarrassing, so let us move on (before the inevitable backlash 😊). Thank you again, everyone.

Oh, I don't collect postcards. Can I have 古印最中 instead?
