Just a quick few questions on nutritional facts in Japan.

KCal I've noticed as a measurement on some food in Japan. I really am not sure what these mean and could not find it on the forum with a search.

Are all foods required to have a nutritional data sheet?

I can't remember and don't have any food here at home, but does food tend to be measured by serving size as well in Japan?

Kcal = kilo calorie = 1000 calories
1 calorie = the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of one gram of water by 1 ツ≫?ケC (Celsius). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celsius
1 cal = 4.184 J

No, it is not mandatory, though many food packages show basic nutrition facts.

It really depends. Usually they show the nutrition facts for 100g, sometimes serving size (for example, a small carton of vegetable juice of 250ml shows nutrition facts for one carton).
Some cereal packages I checked at suparmarkets show both the facts for 100g and that for a service size (=40g or something) as well.

One thing you should probably know is that a calorie is different than a food Calorie. A food Calorie is 4184 joules, or 1000 calories. So a Calorie is a kilo calorie. These are the type of Calories you see in foods. It can be pretty confusing :P.

Ooooh, ok thanks for explaining things guys. The problem is I'm on a careful calorie watch right now as I try to cut down some fat and then build up some muscle before I leave (lost 18 pounds or so gained about 22 pounds of muscle) and I intend to continue of course after I arrive in Tokyo. The problem is I needed to know how to manage calorie and nutrition intake afterwards.

So... if I aim for 1500 kcals will this be the same as 1500 food calories?
