Today the death was announced of one of the greatest opera singers of the last 60 years, Luciano Pavarotti, aged 71 years.

The world has lost someone with not only a very good voice but someone who touched the hearts of millions of people. To millions of people if you say 'Nessun Dorma', they will link it to the start of the 1990 World Cup Finals in Italy.

To me he was a singer I will remember and miss for a long time. In the modern age music industry where some singers do not even last six months and some bands cannot sell enough tickets to fill a janitors closet, a man who had a natural gift to be able to sing and entertain will be greatly missed.

R.I.P Luciano Pavarotti, you will be missed.

I very much liked him when he was doing a lot of duettes with Helmut Lotti.

I was very shocked. Yesterday afternoon, I saw news that he was sick and in the hospital, and later that night, he was dead. Crazy.

Didn't listen to his singing much but I had a DVD of the three tenors singing a great rendition of Brindisi, and a CD set of him in La Traviata. He was awesome.
 
Yes, the world lost a great voice that stirred the emotions whenever he sang. I loved his singing. He will be missed, but his voice will remain forever.

Same here, except it was early morning I heard he was very ill and then an hour later he had deid. As an opera lover I was shocked, as I didn't know he was that ill.
 
Very sad news.

He'd been very ill indeed, on and off, for at least five years now. I remember back in 2002, I think, one of my Japanese friends paid many thousands of pounds to fly to New York to see him on his 'farewell' tour (not really a farewell, as he continued to sing - I think it was perhaps his last stint as the star in a particular opera run or some such, though).

Anyway, he didn't make it that night, and the understudy performed.

So, no real surprise, as his health has long been failing, but nevertheless the world is a far less rich place for his passing, and has lost one of its true legends.

Not many people could move so many with his/her voice as Luciano Pavarotti.
 
What a shock! I didn't even know Mr. Pavarotti had been sick. Or that he was 71. Wow! The entertainment world lost a true giant. While I'm no opera fan, the news of his passing saddened me. Mr. Pavarotti will indeed be missed.
