Anyhow, made of stone, I like your idea of getting her something to remind her of a good past-time.
Just recently, I came accross an album of family photos of when I was a child. I remembered almost all the moments clearly. I'd maker her a card (tried in the past), but I am not at all great with photoshop.
So far, I plan to cook her a great dinner, get some flowers & card. Last year I bought her a food processor. She wanted one, so I decided to get it.
On a side note. Sorry to hear about your mother. Hope things are going well for you.

I was thinking of taking "I love you" and making some sort of hand drawn portrait of it written in Japanese. Which way of writting it is most appropriate?
I don't know enough to distinguish the right and wrong translation from online sources. If someone could write it in Kanji, Hiragana, and Katakana, that would be great! (I want to see which one would look best)
