Sorry I couldn't say it on this board but I was rooting for Croatia (based on my own roots). Let's hope they can go all the way this time.

Oh, where in HR are your roots? Last night, my cousin's overjoyed wife contacted me right after the game. She's from Croatia. I wish them all the best against Brazil.
Overall, a terrific effort by the Samurai Blue; they've come a long way! I hope they will use the next four years to work on their penalty kicks.

One side is from Zagreb area, close to where the Zagreb airport is now. The other side was from Lika, pretty close to Smiljan where Nikola Tesla was born.Oh, where in HR are your roots? Apparently the boys played very well. Sad that I am to see such a deserving team get knocked out on penalties, I couldn't help laughing at the reporting by NHK this morning. During the 20 minutes of close-ups of teary fans, etc., that I saw, they did not once show the penalty shootout itself, arguably the most important part of the match, such is NHK's desire to cheerlead for Japan rather than report facts!

They did, indeed! That's why this unfortunate outcome of the PK is a complete mystery to me. Never have I seen three missed penalty kicks in one game.
