Founded in 1965, Kyoto Sangyo University (京都産業大学 Kyōto Sangyō Daigaku) is a major private university in northern Kyoto. Established by astrophysicist Dr Toschima Araki, the university was created to educate globally minded graduates who are rooted in Japanese traditions yet possess a broad understanding of international cultures and contemporary society. Today, it has grown into a comprehensive institution offering programmes in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, information technology and international studies, with particular strengths in global education and scientific research.
