Kuramoto Ice (株式会社クラモト氷業), a family-owned business, began as a general store in 1923. The third generation shifted the focus to manufacturing high-quality ice for the hospitality industry. Over the years, the company has adapted to customer needs, developing innovative ice products like "Kachiwari L," large, hand-cracked ice cubes. In 2015, Kuramoto invested in a modern manufacturing facility with a capacity of 10 tons of ice per day. Kuramoto Ice Company specializes in producing high-quality clear ice. Their Junpyo ice, meaning "pure ice" in Japanese, is created meticulously. Water is slowly frozen at a low temperature of around 14° Fahrenheit while being agitated for over 48 hours in a controlled environment. This slow freezing process excludes impurities from the ice, resulting in its high transparency, hardness, and slow melting rate. Also, prolonged agitation removes micro air bubbles, enhancing the ice's clarity. Kuramoto prioritizes safety and quality. Its clear ice has minimal microorganisms, and the company regularly sends samples to certified laboratories for testing.
