Hi everyone! New here, looking for a little guidance.
I am an American master's student and I've been studying Japanese on-and-off since 2000. I would currently place myself at intermediate low. I've been to Japan twice - once in 2004 for a 6 week homestay in Hiroshima, and recently in 2011 (arrived a few days before the tsunami) for 4.5 months at 名古屋大国語大学 (Nagoya GaiDai). I am aspiring to a career in the field of Japanese art history, specializing in Shinto and Buddhist art - and I really, really need to work on my language skills. Job postings I've been seeing require fluency, for instance.
Thus, I've been seriously considering re-immersing myself at a Japanese language school in Japan in order to finally "get it." Originally my professor recommended I look at IUC in Yokohama, mainly based on the reputation it has amongst the Japanese art history community. However, tuition is $31,000 for 10 months, not including room and board.
I asked on another forum where I should go instead, and Yamasa was mentioned. I really like the look of the school. However, I am worried about its reputation/ranking. I understand from my research (here and elsewhere) that it is a highly recommended school by those who have attended it - but how is it going to look on my resume?
Any other advice/words of wisdom regarding Yamasa and/or other options are welcome as well.
