Wrong and Silly type of Wikipedia

i see thank you everyone for the comments, for those funny guys who said something about the OP (i wasn't promoting this site!)

I never said you promoted the site. I said you publicized the site.

I had never heard of it before reading your post. But I went there and spent about half an hour surfing around on it after reading your post.

Surely the meaning is the same in this case, then?

The outcome is the same. Which is not the same as the meaning being the same.

Promoting implies a recommendation or endorsement, at the very least encouraging others to visit. Publicizing merely implies broadening knowledge of the site's existence. Quite clearly he did not want to promote the site, even though he did end up publicizing it. And though in the end result there isn't a nickel's worth of difference, I still like to adhere to Rule 13.

I think if you want to do something about it, you can always send emails to the record companies of these artist or companies these people belong to including this link....

But, I wouldn't worry about it and just browse on.

Thanks Mike, for giving me something stimulating to chew on here!

I do appreciate the difference, and just meant to suggest that in this case there was no practical difference between the two in terms of what the OP provided, (implicitly-implied I'd hoped, but perhaps not!)

In any case the two terms do overlap here in certain spheres. Some of my friends are book 'publicists' and not 'promoters'. Others work for PR companies or events and they are 'promoters'. It's just a difference of emphasis, with the same meaning - 'promoter' sounds slightly more pro-active, confident, pushy, while the other strikes us as quiet, intelligent, and perhaps not needing to push quite as hard.

Anyway, great to see another who loves our great language as much as I do, and also love your links - great stuff! Keep'em coming! :)

Hi Herbal Shin,
As it was said before, you can ignore things like that on Wiki, but you can also fix them. You can join Wiki as a contributor an edit someone's posts:-) and make them fair to Japan!👍

yup you are right, but now i pretend it as a joke, although my friends also said it was stupid to mention it but yeah i cannot turn the time 😌

My strong condolences to you, but i never thought that they could insult in such a bad manner. I am a fan of Ayumi Hamasaki and if any idiot says anything bad about her, I will ram his face down a septic tank! Or send a bulk of viruses to his site and ........................ . Even though I am not Japanese (i am Indian) I still love Japan , yet i am so sad that such a good country has gone through the toughest hardships in life. Japan facinates me. more than any other country. Please comment on my posts and see the new member introduction page to know more of me. let me show you the website i created for Ayumi Hamasaki. (I am a webmaster)
ayumi.co.nr copy that link and paste it in your browser. Bye

well let's take it as a joke and just leave it like allready is, it's only a pity that people make site's like this as a joke. I like Ayumi Hamasaki too and Koda Kumi and Koyuki. But yeah like i said it's just a joke.

Just hire a detective, find the ones responsible, than a hitman, and have them murdered in cold blood... whoa, that would actually own :D
No one would dare to publish false information anymore i bet :d
