There is the NJstar, as mentioned before, also, the Wubi method (but thats abit harder, and you need to know the order of strokes
Also, some keyboards have ㄅㄆㄇㄈ on then, which can be used to type chinese if you learnt it (like me, lol)
OR, you can just get a tablet (those touch screen thingys?) better for older people, who are not very computer litterate, it's easy to set up, and alot of the instructions are in chinese, if they are needed.
You can get them from around $30? (AU) or cheaper... mine was wireless.
(I do not recommend getting a wireless tablet though.)
