I just wanted to know how I would introduce myself in these different situations. Like whether i should say just my name, or my full name or just my last name.

1. A friend your own age

2. The parents of your friend

3. A teacher in a japanese school

4. A receptionist at a hotel in japan.

Are you talking about how to refer to yourself when introducing? If so, I would use just my surname for all those cases. It's rare to use only given name in Japanese, imo.

Unless you're a foreigner, of course. Foreigners don't have family names; we only have given names.

(The very few times anyone has called me by my surname in Japan it has felt so odd that I sort of wished they wouldn't do it).

Ah, right. There seems to be a difference between foreigners and Japanese.

Ah yep. Thanks guys.
