What's there to do in Miyazaki?

Whats there to do in Miyazaki city?
Is there a night life at all?
If I spent 10 weeks there would I be bored sh*tless? (I can speak and listen (reading's another story), and I've got some experience with miyazaki-ben)

I'm 18, I don't have a license here in the states--I'm a good drive however,
would it be feasible for me to get my U.S. license, get an international drivers license, (before october)
and rent a motorcycle or something to move around Kyushu while I'm there? (I'm not sure if there's a rule on int. driver licenses that u have to have ur native license for a certain amount of time or not)
Would that be expensive as hell?

Any advice u could give me would be great

You won't be able to obtain an International Driving Permit unless you already have a valid license for the state you currently reside in. The actual application consists of going down to your local AAA office, giving them a passport-sized photo, and forking over like $20 or something (good for one year beyond which you must apply for a regular Japanese license). If you're only going for ten weeks and plan on being mobile it certainly won't hurt for you to acquire one since it's hardly a hassle. Renting a motorbike though while you're here might be another issue... heh. Btw, haven't spent much time in Miyazaki yet so can't really give you much input re: what to see and do there. Anyways, hope you have a nice trip while you're abroad.

I searched a rental shop of a motorcycle of Miyazaki.
I was not able to search it on Internet.
In Kyushu, it is only four cases in Fukuoka.

Have any interest in surfing? There are some good spots a bit north of Miyazaki-shi, apparently.

Aahh... I have heard that as well. In fact, one of my students makes the pilgrimage there every other week (about 5 hours by car, 1-way I think he said). Must have some kind of decent waves if he doesn't mind making that long a trip, heh.

oh yea, I know Miyazaki's a surfing mecha, and I know there's alot of outdoor things to do, I'm just curious about friend-making opportunities there since I'll be alone. My best friend is in Nichinan, but we might not be able to hangout much because she has to prepare for entrance exams.

Thanks Hiroyuki! Those sites are really useful! Fukuoka might not be a bad idea, I could fly in and out of Fukuoka cheaper than Miyazaki, and then renting/returning the bike there would work perfectly. I wonder what the catch is though, probably 窶愿ｺ窶怒ﾂ催敖住窶｢ﾃ崢湘伉人窶｢K窶牌. ><
Plus I'll have to get a bike license here too.=/ I dunno anything about doing that. Ohwell, time for more research!
