If i was greeting someone, like, 'Hi john.' would I be saying:
Ken-san, konnichiwa.
or
Konnichiwa, Ken-san.
any ideas? or does it matter?

If it was during the day, both are fine. Its just like saying, "Hi John" or "John, hi". Same meaning.

It's just like in English. "Hi, John." We even, occasionally, say "John, hi." Usually that's more out of surprise or more along the lines of special occasion or so forth. For example, "John, hi! Long time no see!" It might not have the same effect in Japanese, but it seems to be that way to me.
