Hi,

I applied for a one-year exchange program at Waseda University in March for Software Engineering (School of Fundamental Science and Engineering - Information Science). I have two questions:

1. Does anyone know when I might hear back from them if I've gotten in or not? Their website just says "May - June" and the wait is killing me! Would they respond directly to me by e-mail/snail mail, or to my university (University of Toronto)?

2. I took the 2008 JLPT Level 2 and just barely failed (59.25%). I studied my butt off learning nearly 1100 kanji one-by-one, grammar forms, etc but still couldn't pass (quite disappointing for me!) I still decided to apply anyway and also included a reference letter from my Japanese tutor stating that she felt I was still fit for the program. I'm wondering if I still have any chance of getting in, considering that JLPT level 2 was a prerequisite for this program or if I shouldn't be getting my hopes up. I would really love to go, but at this point, I think I would understand if I didn't get in because of this.

Any advice or feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

I got in!

In case anyone stumbles across this in the future, my university received my admission package on Friday June 5th, 2009. Yes, I somehow managed to get in. I guess it was worth applying anyway, despite my failure of JLPT level 2. Anyone in a similar situation in the future may want to consider doing this also.

Best regards,

John

Congrats!

You seemed to fail on the JLPT only by a slight margin, so it was nice of them to evaluate your entry despite that fact. I hope you are able to get most of it from the exchange.
