So, this may sound obvious but...

How do Japanese people feel about unnatural hair colors (Green, blue, etc)? I might be going to Uni in Nagoya starting next semester... Could I make it in an academic setting with green hair, or should I just cover it up to not offend anyone?

You'll already stand out as a non-Asian non-Japanese face. Beyond that, do whatever you like.

Japanese college kids break free from traditions and dye their hair in college (often without parents knowing), but they don't usually go with the unnatural colors you mentioned. More like blonde or light brown or reddish. Join the crowd!

If you're young and in school, it won't make any difference among your peers. You might even be more interesting and exotic to some of them. Getting the respect of professors may be a little more difficult. It's really a case by case thing though.

Yeah, but as I'm going as a MEXT student for up to my Ph. DI figured I might not want to leave a negative impression. I figured I'd have to dye it a normal color from the get-go, but then again I come from a pretty traditionalist place myself and yet didn't have any problem with my college professors, so I thought it might be worth asking ^^

I don't really care about being interesting/exotic, I just like the color
