I've seen on the Weather Channel that a typhoon could be heading toward Japan. Are people in Japan worried? Is anyone preparing for it? I hope it doesn't get that far, or hit any land. It looks like Taiwan could also be in its path.

Look What's headed my way!
Sara take a look at this thread, the typhoon is approaching us here in Okinawa, it shouldn't affect Taiwan other than some high seas and maybe some rain from the outer bands.

The wind is picking up here this AM and we are expecting the typhoon tomorrow morning. It is a Cat 4 typhoon now with a small chance of it hitting a Cat 5 or SuperTyphoon status. Believe me when I tell you that it really isnt a big deal for us here in Okinawa, we get typhoons here often, and I would say that close to 99% of the buildings here are steel reinforced concrete block. The worst thing to worry about is losing power, however depending on the area one lives in that isnt a big deal either.

THe mainland suffers far worse damage from typhoons than here, even if we get 150mph winds http://www.guam.navy.mil/weather/metoc/cat.htm we should be fine.

Thanks, Obeika - sorry I didn't your thread about this in Chit Chat! I posted a reply there.
