I have two major questions, and one really minor question.
The first one is, since I started "studying" Japanese (Not including Kana), from the 17th of February, how developed is my grammar? First of all, can you read my handwriting? Second, note I use Kanji for 為る just because. Thirdly, are you able to understand most of it, if not all of it? I put study in quotes because I don`t study as often, or as in detail as I would like. If you are able to read it, yes, it is attempting to insult someone at first; when I write in Japanese, ideas just don`t come out of my head. This was a rare occasion where I did think of something about which to write, it just wasn`t very pretty. If you can't read it, I can attempt to type it out in an edit, but I had to use a dictionary for some of the words here. I only know a handful of words. (I am guessing from 100-300)
I swear 私は教えて呉れたいよ。 for, "I want you to give me teaching" extremelly wrong. Seriously. At the very least, に instead of は, and find a better way to structure 呉れたい、 becuase it sounds like they want to teach me. Grumble grumble.
Secondly, how is my approach at Kanji? For a whole month I was stick with 100 odd JLPT5 Kanji. That was it. I was stagnant, but then I found a new way to learn them. This is in meaning only, no readings or vocabulary to which I could attach them. Essentially, I pick out a kareoke style song, furigana makes the looking-up process much faster, and look up each and every Kanji I don`t know in it. I type it all up, print it out, and then play the song.
When one of the Kanji from this list appears throughout the song, I pause it, think of its meaning, and write it down. I do this 5 times in a row, 5 playings of the song, and then break. Then I come back about an hour to a half-hour later. This is repeated throughout the day. After the first hour or two, I generally have them in my head.
Near the end of the day, I`m forgetting one of the two/three meanings I attached to them each time I go through, only to remember them the next time, and it gets frustrating. But then, when I wake up the next morning, I completely remember them all. There have only been around two Kanji that I could not learn. I don`t really know why. Doing this nets me, again in meaning only, around 30 Kanji per day. The most was 60, and the least was 10, but it averages around 30.
If I ever find a Kanji with only one reading, I make sure to learn it immediately. I only know of three at the moment, 憶、題、談.
As for reading, I can only read Kanji that are in my vocabulary. I don`t look up readings, generally, I look up words. One weird example came when I saw the word 最新, I actually guessed さいしん as a joke (Picking it apart from 最高 and 新聞), and was shocked that it was actually right. It`s also weird how 心 can be pronounced しん as I know no words for that reading. It`s always been こころ to me.
With writing, I just let it flow naturally; I do not look up stroke order unless absoloutly necessary. After a while of looking up stroke order, near the beginning of my studies, things just made patterns. Later I learned they were radicals. There`s quite a few I just cannot write well, such as 劇
due to the lower bottom portion. I had to look up 虜 because of the top part. Because of these patterns, a 24 stroke one such as 靈 is extremelly easy to write. Again, in meaning only, how developed do you think this list is? I go through it, in writing while writing each one three times, once every two days.
That`s the end of my questions.
The last one was, when I had to sign up and answer, "What is the capital of Japan?"
It counted 東京 as wrong. That, in itself, is wrong. What do you think?
