Translating a song

I'm trying to translate a song cause i think it will really help me... tell me if tese are right (i used my new dictionary to look up thewords)

Yama o koete umi o watatte.

Go across the mountain beyond the ocean.

ue = top (of hill)

ima = right now/ now
mukashi = the acient times/ the old days
hitotsu = one
kage = shadow

For "Gaadoreeru no ue tobikoe"...

say "gaadoreeru" out loud. You will instantly be able to see that it means "guardrail".

飛び越え（とびこえ） is from 飛び越える, which means "to jump over" something or "to walk over" something. 飛び越え is a rough way of telling someone to jump over something. In this case, the lyric 「ガードレールの上（うえ）飛び越え」 means "Jump over the top of the guardrail."

Also, I think that at this point, you shouldn't really try to translate song lyrics. Lyrics are often vague and poetic-sounding, so it's best to leave those alone until you know a lot of vocabulary and grammar.

I quite agree with what doinkies san said about translating lyrics, because lyrics don't really follow grammatical rules and you sometimes need to guess what the writer means.

Well, the accual reason im translating it is becaus ei wanna know what it means in english... i really like the song...soo is this right:

yama o koete umi o watatte. = Go across the mountain beyond the ocean.
gaadoreeru no ue tobikoe. = Jump over the top of the guardrail.
ima wa mukashi hitotsu no kage ga. = Rights now one's shadow is in the old days/ancient times.

i under stand it's said poetcally or w/e...but if u were talking would it be:

yama o koete umi o watatte.
gaadoreeru no ue o tobikoete.
ima wa hitotsu no kage ga mukashi ni.
I'm not really sure im right...but im just wondering...
