I wish it wasn't restricted to Nihonbashi: Metropolitan Expressway Co. will start removing the elevated expressway built over the Kandagawa in the Nihonbashi area. The project is scheduled to be completed by May 2041.

Provided that JREF will still be around in 19 years, we'll be among the first to show pictures of the unobstructed Kandagawa.

If they can get the water as clean as it is in that image, it'll be nothing less than a miracle. But I'd love to see it.

I have no sources to back it up, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's cleaner today than in the 1960s.

In Fukuoka 1971&72 . each summer the base beach had to be bulldozed clean of tons of plastic waste to use it. The rivers that ran through Fukuoka were always filled with trash ; smelly & dirty.

The river flowing through the present Fukuoka city is such a feeling.

After 77 years, Tokyo will have restored blue skies over Nihonbashi by relocating its expressways underground and transforming its historic centre by fiscal 2040.
