Tokyo Groove Jyoshi

[Yama Imo]

This band is awesome!! I stumbled upon a few of this group's videos on YouTube a few months ago. It is a female jazz/groove band started in 2018 by three superbly talented session musicians, Juna Serita (bass), Emi Kanazashi (keyboards), Yuriko Seki (drums). Juna and Yuriko have since left the band and were replaced by Rina Hoshino, and MiMi, respectively. Other guest musicians often perform with them, e.g. saxophonist Harumo Imai.

Here is a video of the original band members plus Shinobu Kawashima playing Tsugaru Shamisen, performing one of their many cover renditions of the 1970's Tower of Power song, "What is Hip?". Enjoy!

I have been following Jyoshi for a few years now. All the musicians both past and present are amazing. I played bass guitar and drums years ago, so I'm a major fan of Juna Serita (on bass) and both Yuriko and MiMi (on drums). And yes, Harumo Imai (Saxaphone) is also amazing.
