こんにちは皆さん
If I use 日本の主要な島 does that normally mean the 4 largest islands?
I would like to say that next years vacation will be spent touring japans 4 main islands i.e excluding 沖縄、by train.
Would something like this be okay?
来年お休みは日本の主要な島中に電車で旅行します
Or would you have to stipulate the four largest islands? not sure how I would say that possibly 日本の上位4最大の島?
よろしくお願いします

It is simply called 日本四島.

You can consider the following sentence for your reference:
「来年の休みは電車で日本四島制覇する予定です。」

I would just say 日本中.
The particle for the location you travel about is を, btw. に is for the location you travel to, i.e., 日本を旅行する and 日本に旅行する have different meanings.

Using 制覇する is that the same meaning as used in English?
On next year's vacation I plan to conquer the main islands of japan by train.
That is a good new vocabulary 制覇する that I have not seen.

Thanks everyone,
Toritoribesan, thanks for the tip on using the を particle.

It should be 来年の(お)休み, as already pointed out.
