Hi!
Lately I've been chatting with a lot of people from different countries, and every single time I mentioned that I'm from Amsterdam, people responded with: oh, so you often go to the coffeeshop? Then, after I explained most people here don't go there that much, most people say: I figured you guys did that all the time..
The first time I laughed my *** off, but now I notice that almost every time people ask me about the coffeeshops.
It isn't annoying, but I was just wondering if (Japanese)people really think that Dutch people go to the coffeeshop every day..
Thank you! ^^

Many people do think like that indeed.. When people ask me now I often say that I smoke everyday, can't live without alcohol, have a harem of prostitutes and shoot a shot a heroine before I go to bed. 😊

Dutch Baka sent me this link a while ago.. It's a Japanese TV-show on the Dutch people's use of marijuana. Enjoy. 😌

When I was in the Netherlands I never went to Amsterdam... I did go to Haarlem, but not Amsterdam... Of course I think that almost everyone's opinion tends to lean towards the notion that people in NL smoke weed all of the time... I won't say that this is true... but, for a country where this sort of thing is tolerated, the people I met who weren't coffee-shop types of people smoked a good deal more than any place else I've been in the world, oddly with the exception of a friend who lives in Tokyo, Shibuya.

I do hate cultural steryotypes though... On the one hand, I have a sneaking suspicion that they're unfortunately true, and on the other hand, I'm sick and tired of even Englanders claiming that Americans are all loutish, loud, brash cowboys...

Then I watch the college students throw pizza boxes everywhere in my neighborhood and I silently weep for our lack of depth...
